PLANS FOR Chip Week 2014 are officially underway; running from 17-23 February 2014, the annual event is one of the biggest awareness weeks in the calendar and promises to be a huge success.
The popular event provides the perfect opportunity for pubs, restaurants and catering outlets to highlight their quality chip offerings. What’s more, Chip Week provides a real boost to business and offers the perfect platform to drive sales and increase revenue, whilst encouraging consumers to celebrate the mighty chip.
Stu Baker, Chip Week campaign manager for Potato Council, said: “Chip Week is a national institution; in fact 2014 sees it return for the 23rd consecutive year. Pubs, restaurants and canteens are being urged to get involved and celebrate one of the nation’s favourite foods.
“It’s not too early to start thinking about backing the campaign – supporting Chip Week 2014 is easy. Introducing chip themed menus, offering chip-based promotions or holding charity events are all great ideas that can help raise awareness and boost sales. Using social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are simple ways to promote your activities during Chip Week and tempt diners.”
From chunky chips to thin fries and lattice style chips to spicy wedges, the opportunity to deliver an exciting chip-themed is endless. Stu said: “A mix and match chip menu is a great way to support Chip Week 2014; not only will it boost chip sales, customers have the opportunity to choose their favourite style of chip.”
To create the perfect chips, Stu recommends using a potato variety that produces a fluffy centre when cooked; varieties such as Maris Piper or Kind Edward are ideal. For more information on understanding the different tastes and textures CLICK HERE
