CHEFS SERVING Welsh Lamb in their restaurants are being urged to reference its PGI status on their menus.
Clearly referencing PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) and making it visible to patrons will reassure customers as to the origin of the meat they are ordering following recent scares.
“Using PGI Welsh Lamb is a distinguishing characteristic which marks a menu out as a sign of quality and we would encourage chefs to include it when they are looking at refreshing their dishes and menus for the summer,” said Pip Gill from Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC), the organisation behind PGI Welsh Lamb.
Foodservice businesses are expected to see increasing numbers of customers asking about the traceability and origin of their food – especially meats – following recent scandals surrounding horse meat and the mis-labelling of fish.
