UFS sets school meal challenge

UNILEVER FOOD Solutions (UFS) has pledged to donate 150,ooo meals to children in Indonesia.

The target has been set as part of the company’s support for the World Food Programme, and its aim to end child hunger in Indonesia.

Throughout April to June and September to December this year, for every tracked case of Knorr Create More Sauce sold into schools, UFS will donate 10 school meals to the campaign. School caterers keen to support the initiative will be provided with a fundraising kit to help raise awareness during World Hunger Awareness in May (20th-24th) and World Food Week in October (14th -18th). The kit is includes educational promotional materials, recipes to engage students and fundraising ideas that will help schools raise money.

In 2010, UFS launched its Sustainable Living Plan, with a pledge to help one billion people across the globe improve their health and wellbeing by 2020.

James Allred, UFS channel manager, said 500 million children are currently at risk of malnutrition across the world.

“It costs 20p to pay for a meal for one school child in Indonesia,” he explained. “Schools don’t need to charge lots of money to get involved in raising additional funds. We believe that working together we can make a positive difference to this worthy cause and hope school caterers across the country feel the same.”
