A 25-year study has found that eating fruit and vegetables can help with weight management.
The study of over 124,000 people found that each extra daily portion corresponded to a small, but significant weight reduction of 100g over four years. This was apparently due to the flavoids in the fruits and vegetables.
For chef’s looking to for ingredients to plan healthier menus, the research found that blueberries, strawberries, apples, pears and oranges had the greatest overall impact in helping people to maintain, and even lose, weight. This was due to their increased levels of anthocyanins, flavonoid polymers and flavonols. Tea and onions were also beneficial.
