Millions of operators have transformed the way that they fry with our device, yet our journey here in the UK has only just begun, hence why we are so delighted to have received not one – but two highly commended accolades at the prestigious Footprint Awards! The journey that I mention here, is one that started In Canada, back in 2007, when I made an accidental discovery…
Originally devised to enhance the longevity of oil in automotive and mechanical engines, my technology initially fell short, yielding a mere 5% efficiency. Despite the setback, my dedicated research and development team persisted, exploring alternative applications. A breakthrough occurred when one scientist proposed experimenting with edible oils. Astonishingly, when applied to cooking oils, the technology exhibited remarkable results, significantly retarding the oxidation process during frying. This unexpected success marked a pivotal moment, and what would become the start of a ‘green’ frying revolution under the OiLChef brand.
OiLChef oil-saving devices ingeniously integrate into virtually any commercial brand of deep fat fryer and utilise advanced filtration and recirculation technology. This sophisticated, trade-secret combination is world-leading, and proven to satisfy the following sustainability targets:
- Extend the lifespan of frying oil by double, therefore reducing the frequency of oil changes and the carbon footprint associated with oil production and disposal.
- Reduce frying temperatures by up to 30 °F. This equates to radical energy savings – for a positive impact on the operator’s pocket, and the environment too.
- Reduce fried food waste by enabling operators to deliver consistent, high-quality fried food results.
- Reduce food cook times which saves twenty times more energy per kWh than the amazing, reduced frying temperature savings
- Significant water savings every week for 3 years, through reduced fryer oil changes, which also saves on detergents and additional energy and environmental waste.
OiLChef is the sustainability champion added to deep fat fryers in environmentally conscious professional kitchens. From the point of an incredibly simple ‘slot-in’ style installation, the astonishing environmental and financial benefits of this device get to work, as our glowing library of customer testimonials describe:
Four Lanterns Achieves Savings of €22,000 This Year: “The biggest savings come from the significant reduction in oil usage. For example, if oil costs around $1.30 per litre, we estimate that instead of using 26,000 to 27,000 litres of oil this year, our company will only use between 8,500 and 9,000 litres thanks to this innovation.” – Kevin Grimes, Owner of The Four Lanterns
Jolly Sailor Achieves 25-30% Cost Reduction: “Fundamentally, the device increases the lifespan of the oil, and this means a cost reduction of around 30% to the business because we now change the oil every eight days instead of five days. And on top of that, we’re obviously helping our environmental footprint because we now use less oil.” – Dan Borza, Operations Chef, Almond Family Pubs
Hennighan’s cuts oil consumption by 77% with game-changing OiLChef: “In 2021, our oil wastage was 1,120 litres. Fast forward to 2023 – which was our first full year of using OiLChef in all our fryers and we discarded just 247 litres of oil. That’s a waste reduction of 77%, allowing us to save thousands of £ on oil alone. We’ve also found that the temperature of our cooking oil is about 5-6₀C less when using an OiLChef device in each fryer. With 12 fryers across both of our shops, this temperature reduction has allowed us to make savings in energy consumption.” – David Hennighan, Owner of Hennighan’s Fish & Chips
A magic device for The Regency Club: “Prior to installing OiLChef, our chefs were in a habit of changing oil on a fixed day every single week, when the oil was becoming dark. Now our chefs have a new routine of changing cooking oil based on the food results themselves. To put this into perspective, we now use 60L of oil per month instead of 100L which is a great saving for our business.” – Rahul Sharma, Owner of The Regency Club
Archie’s Incorporates OiLChef Across All Fryers: ““To be honest, I was sceptical of the claims. Could this device really improve our food quality and save money on oil usage? I had a chat with Sean, OiLChef CEO and he suggested we do a trial. So, for one month we compared a fryer with OiLChef Vs one without the device and we monitored food quality and oil condition. After that trial, we couldn’t believe it. Food quality was excellent, and we reduced oil consumption by around 50%. We could cook at lower temperatures (around 10 degrees lower) and we reduced our cooking times by a couple of minutes per item.”
Following the trial, Archie’s rolled out the OiLChef devices to its stores and it now has around fifty across the entire business.
As Nuno concludes,
“We used to change the oil in our chicken fryers every day, now it’s twice a week and that’s a massive saving in oil and saves us thousands of pounds a year; so, yeah, I’m really glad I went to that exhibition and met Sean!” – Nuno Lopes, Operations Director, Archies
In addition to the sustainable credentials of the devices themselves, we go the extra mile to help customers fry in a greener way by offering complimentary environmental consultancy. This relates to the efficiency of deep-frying operations, namely, evaluating and testing the environmental qualities and impact of deep fryers.
For OiLChef, sustainability goes far beyond our device. It’s about re-educating customers about their attitude towards frying, for the benefit of the operator and the planet too.
