BAXTERSTOREY HAS has reinforced its commitment to sustainable sourcing with a move to 100% pole and line caught tuna. The change sees BaxterStorey fully adopt the highest sustainable tuna specification.
Pole and line caught tuna ensures ethical sourcing by guaranteeing that each fish is individually caught, thus limiting the impact on tuna stocks and minimising risk to rare and other species such as turtles or sharks. The method is good for local communities as it brings employment opportunities to coastal regions and the added benefit to the consumer is that the product is fully traceable from sea to site.
Scott Taylor, Supply Chain Category Manager (Retail, Beverages & Fish) for BaxterStorey, said: “Sustainable sourcing is at the core of everything we do at BaxterStorey and we’re very excited to now be able to offer our customers 100% pole and line caught tuna. We’re also proud to guarantee, through our robust chain of custody, that all our tuna will now be sourced from a BRC Grade A facility through a family run and owned UK business.”
BaxterStorey has been commended for its long-term commitments to serving sustainable food by the Food Legacy Programme and has numerous sustainable catering accolades to its name.
