CONSUMERS WILL be able to identify where they can buy sustainable fish in their area using a new interactive map.
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has produced the map, which spotlights which caterers, schools, restaurants and chippies are using MSC-certified fish.
Across the UK, over 4,000 schools are serving MSC-certified fish, every UK branch of McDonalds sells the MSC certified fillet-o-fish and there are a selection of restaurants and chippies also certified. Now consumers can find where they are, said MSC commercial officer Ruth Wetscott.
A growing number of consumers say they will only buy fish from sustainable sources and this is important when they are eating out as well as at home.
We hope this tool will help to highlight those schools, restaurants and workplaces that are offering customers such choices and making a positive difference to the future of our oceans. The new mapping tool makes it easy to find out if your local restaurants are MSC certified.
Last month, Birds Eye announced that all its seafood supplied to schools is MSC-certified.
