THE ROUNDTABLE on Sustainable Palm Oil has finally agreed to add a “no deforestation” commitment to its standards pertaining to sustainable production.
RSPO Next, as it’s been badged, will be a voluntary addendum covering the claims of “No Deforestation, No Peat Planting and strengthened Human Rights commitments” the organisation said in a statement.
A detailed investigation into recent allegations relating to “dodgy” auditing systems will also take place, following a vote at the RSPO’s 13th annual meeting.
The UK sourced between 72% and 93% of its palm oil from sustainable sources in 2014, according to figures published last week. The target is 100% by the end of this year.
