MARS HAS achieved a 54% year-on-year increase in the amount of renewable energy used by the company, according to its 2014 sustainability report.
Much of the green energy comes from the construction of a wind farm in Texas that provides the equivalent to 12% of Mars’ global energy.
Energy consumption also fell by 2% across the company in 2014.
The improvements came from a variety of regional initiatives including heating a Mars chocolate factory in France using the steam generated from a near by waste energy facility; and recovering waste heat from a site in Germany, conserving water, energy and steam in the process.
Mars is continuing to try and improve energy performance. While some sites struggled to become more energy efficient, they are using the knowledge gained from successful sites to support others in improving their energy performance.
