POPULAR PIZZA chain Basilico has fired a starting pistol on sustainable delivery by introducing electric bikes for new Marylebone site.
The low emission bicycles mark a new wave of eco-delivery driven by sustainability concerns from the hospitality industry.
According to Basilico’s owner – Geoff Parsons – the bikes also add a cost-saving dimension: “We will be looking at rolling out the use of electric bikes and scooters for future openings and possibly re-fleeting our existing stores. We see this as a way of reducing pollution and running costs at the same time.”
An electric bicycle or e-bike is exempt from road tax and parking charges, as well as totally free from petrol consumption. Riders are not required to hold a driver’s license either, which could open up employment opportunities to younger people.
