PAKAGING COMPANY Huhtamaki UK is to use 100% PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified paperboard throughout its UK manufacturing operations.
The move comes ahead of new timber regulations that will ban illegal timber and timber products from being placed on the European Union market. The European Timber Regulations cover a broad range of timber products including solid wood products, flooring, plywood, pulp and paper. Not included are recycled products, as well as printed papers such as books, magazines and newspapers.
All paper cups and food containers manufactured by Huhtamaki UK are now made from PEFC certified board, said UK foodservice & sales marketing director John Young.
The company will also be working with customers to ensure that they comply with the new regulations and, if necessary, the PEFC logo can be incorporated into packaging designs.
