Library goes green

NEWCASTLE’S CITY library will boast hot drinks triple certified by Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and the Soil Association.

The move is part of the “aspretto” offer from caterer Sodexo Prestige, which recently won the £1.5m contract to operate the library’s ground floor café.

Only recyclable and bio-degradable signage and packaging is used as part of the offer, while all products are traceable and ethically sourced.

Sodexo’s “STOP Hunger” initiative will also benefit from a donation every time tea or coffee is purchased for the aspretto offer.

Sodexo Prestige is working closely with Newcastle City Libraries to expand its events offering and support its sales strategy and is extending its café facility into the area outside the library in a summer initiative.

“We have spent a huge amount of time choosing our coffees and teas to ensure that they are the very best quality and have the best flavor,” said Colin Perkins, regional director for Sodexo Prestige.

“We have ensured that aspretto is ethically and environmentally responsible and feel it enhances our customers’ experience – an increasing number are as committed as we are to fair and sustainable trading.”
