Market volatility linked to geopolitical instability in the Middle East region has brought into sharp focus the food system’s ongoing reliance on fossil fuel based inputs. Farmers and their customers are bracing themselves for spikes in the price of oil, gas and fertiliser amid a tightening of supplies linked to the closure of the key Strait of Hormuz.
The situation has sparked renewed calls for farmers to transition to more regenerative farming techniques that reduce the need for fossil-fuel inputs, and for food businesses to support the transition with both financial and non-financial support. It’s also led to warnings from farming leaders that such a transition will not happen overnight.
With estimates suggesting ‘regen ag’ currently accounts for around 15% of global crop land, can the current situation act as a catalyst for food systems change through the adoption of regen ag at scale, and how can the food sector support the transition?
Featuring presentations, panel and group discussions this Footprint roundtable in association with Nestle Professional will explore:
- Why current market headwinds make this a decisive moment in the regen ag movement;
- How the business case for investing in regen ag is being strengthened;
- Challenges and opportunities for the transition, including known barriers and potential mitigation strategies;
- Examples from across the industry and supply chain of how regen ag is having a positive impact on farmers and businesses;
- Advice on how the food sector can best support the transition to a more regenerative future food system.
Spaces are limited so book your place ASAP.
