PIZZAEXPRESS HAS appointed Specialist Waste Recycling (SWR) to deliver recycling and waste management services to over 300 of its UK restaurants – all of PizzaExpress’ sites where recycling isn’t determined by a landlord or the local council.
Focusing on a unique blend of food waste, glass, cardboard and general waste collections, the approach significantly reduces the volume of general waste and increases on-site recycling levels to over 85%. It also improves the quality of any residual waste, enabling further off-site segregation to take place and maximising recycling opportunities at every level.
Guy Croot, Head of Distribution at Pizza Express said, “We’re committed to significantly increasing our levels of recycling. Last year the Sustainable Restaurant Association awarded us one star which, for a brand of our size, is a huge achievement. Working with SWR is a great way to build on our commitment to sustainability.”
SWR’s CEO, Andy Butler, commented, “We are delighted to add such a well-established and much-loved brand to our growing client list. Our creativity in delivering such a ground breaking solution to PizzaExpress, and on such a large scale, has re-emphasised our commitment to the hospitality sector in a significant way.”
