Looking for the right lever

VOLUNTARY AGREEMENTS can be powerful catalysts for driving industry-wide change, and with the finance industry desperately needing some matches to ignite the industry’s sustainability efforts, last night’s Footprint Forum challenged the industry to find the right lever.

Entitled Measurement and Benchmarking in corporate services, the KPMG-hosted event concluded that many individual institutions are making good progress in measuring their impacts through tools such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

However, a mechanism, such as a voluntary agreement like the ones developed by WRAP for tackling waste, could give the industry the focus and narrative it so badly needs to drive improvements, whilst getting a notoriously secret sector to open up and share challenges and best practice.
