Members of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee (ENVI) will now repeat the vote which is calling for proposed legislation enforcing origin labelling on all processed meat in the EU.

The Committee claimed it hoped the vote would ‘rebuild consumer confidence in the wake of the horse meat scandal.’

Though strongly supported by a number of organisations, which believe that the vote is a positive step for consumer rights a number of trade bodies are voicing concerns that the proposed law fails to take into account the financial burden the new law would impose on manufacturers.
